Tyler OB/GYN Indicted on Sexual Assault Charges, Medical License Suspended
TYLER, Texas – Dr. Steven Edward Hotchkiss, a 55-year-old OB/GYN practicing in Tyler, was indicted on three counts of sexual assault by a Smith County Grand Jury on Monday, June 24, 2024. This development follows the emergency suspension of his medical license by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) on Friday, June 21, 2024.
The TMB's emergency order stated that Dr. Hotchkiss's continued practice posed a continuing threat to public welfare. A temporary suspension hearing is scheduled for July 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the TMB office in Austin.
Allegations against Dr. Hotchkiss detail sexual assaults of three female patients during medical examinations. The indictment cites specific dates for these alleged incidents: March 2017, June 2017, and July 2023. The TMB order specifies that the July 2023 assault occurred at Tyler OB/GYN, located at 3500 South Broadway Avenue in Tyler, and was reported to the Tyler Police Department.
The Tyler Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit initiated an investigation into Dr. Hotchkiss in August 2023. Dr. Hotchkiss was booked into the Smith County Jail on Thursday, June 20, 2024, and was subsequently released on bonds totaling $90,000 ($30,000 for each charge).
Dr. Hotchkiss formerly held an affiliation with CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic. Through his attorney, he has denied all allegations, stating his intention to cooperate fully with authorities and defend his medical license and reputation.
