Tyler ISD voters will consider a $198.8 million bond proposition on Saturday, May 4th, with early voting scheduled to begin on April 22nd. District officials state the proposed bond would not increase the current tax rate, citing a nickel tax rate reduction that would offset the new debt service.
The bond package is divided into two propositions. Proposition A, the larger of the two, totals $169.8 million and focuses on facility improvements and replacements. This includes the construction of a new elementary school to replace the aging Bell Elementary and Clark Elementary schools located in Tyler, Texas. Existing campuses, including Jackson Elementary, Rice Elementary, and Andy Woods Elementary, would receive significant renovations and upgrades. Additionally, Proposition A allocates funds for district-wide security enhancements, technology upgrades, and general facility improvements. Following the construction of the new elementary school, Bell Elementary and Clark Elementary are planned to be repurposed as Pre-K centers.
Proposition B, valued at $29 million, addresses athletic and fine arts facilities. Planned improvements include upgrades to high school and middle school baseball fields, softball fields, track, and tennis courts across the district. The fine arts programs would benefit from auditorium renovations and improved practice spaces.
Election Day is Saturday, May 4th, with polling locations open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Early voting will run from Monday, April 22nd, through Tuesday, April 30th. Residents must be registered to vote by Thursday, April 4th, to participate in the bond election.
For detailed information on specific projects, voter registration status, and a complete list of polling places, residents are encouraged to visit the official Tyler ISD website at TylerISD.org. The district has also hosted a series of town hall meetings to provide information and answer community questions regarding the bond proposals.
