**Tyler ISD and TJC Expand 'Pathways to Prosperity' Program, Targeting 300 Students for 2024-2025**
Tyler ISD and Tyler Junior College (TJC) are significantly expanding their "Pathways to Prosperity" program for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, aiming to enroll 300 students from Tyler High and Tyler Legacy. The program allows high school students to earn an associate degree or a workforce certificate tuition-free, alongside their high school diploma.
The initiative represents a substantial increase from its pilot program, which launched in the 2022-2023 school year with 20 students primarily focused on construction trades. Currently, the program serves approximately 150 students across various disciplines, demonstrating strong growth and demand.
Students enrolled in "Pathways to Prosperity" can select from a diverse range of career and technical education options. Hands-on trades such as HVAC, welding, construction, and automotive repair are primarily offered at TJC's West Campus, with Tyler ISD providing transportation for participating students. Academic and healthcare pathways are also available, including paralegal studies, cybersecurity, and nursing programs leading to Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) qualifications.
This program provides a critical advantage, enabling students to accrue valuable college credits and acquire in-demand job skills while still in high school. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce directly into well-paying jobs or continue their higher education with a significant head start, all without incurring initial tuition costs.
Interested students and their families are encouraged to apply promptly. Applications for the 2024-2025 school year opened on January 8th, 2024, and will close on February 9th, 2024.
