Tyler ISD Board Approves New Pay Plan, Boosting Teacher Salaries and Staff Wages
The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a new comprehensive pay plan for teachers and staff, alongside the district's 2024-2025 budget, during its meeting on Monday, June 17. The plan, effective for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, represents an additional $7.5 million investment by the district aimed at attracting and retaining top educational talent in Tyler, Texas.
A key highlight of the new compensation structure is a significant increase in the starting teacher salary, which will now be $60,000. This marks a $4,000 jump from the previous $56,000 and positions Tyler ISD as a leading district for entry-level educators in East Texas.
Current teachers, librarians, counselors, and nurses within Tyler ISD will also see substantial raises. These professionals will receive an average increase of approximately 4%, translating to an estimated $2,500 to $3,000 raise, depending on their experience and position on the salary scale.
The pay plan extends to all support staff, including hourly, administrative, professional, and other non-campus positions. This group will receive an increase calculated as 4% based on the midpoint of their salary schedule, or a 3% increase on their current salary, whichever amount is greater. Additionally, all support staff members will receive a minimum increase of $1,200.
District officials stated the investment is crucial for remaining competitive with neighboring districts and ensuring high-quality instruction and support services for students across Tyler ISD.
The development of this new compensation plan was a months-long effort, led by the Human Resources and Finance departments. The plan was first presented to the Board of Trustees during a workshop on May 20th before its final adoption on June 17th.
