Tyler ISD Board Approves 2024-2025 School Calendar
The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees officially approved the academic calendar for the 2024-2025 school year during its meeting on Monday, March 18, 2024. Students in Tyler, Texas, will begin classes on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, and conclude the year on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Teachers are set to report earlier, with inservice and workdays scheduled from Monday, August 5, through Tuesday, August 13, 2024. An additional workday for staff is set for Friday, May 23, 2025.
Major breaks for students include Thanksgiving, observed from Monday, November 25, to Friday, November 29, 2024. Winter Break will run from Monday, December 23, 2024, through Friday, January 3, 2025. Spring Break is slated for Monday, March 10, to Friday, March 14, 2025.
Additional student holidays are scheduled for Labor Day on Monday, September 2, 2024; Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20, 2025; and Good Friday on Friday, April 18, 2025. Early release days for students are set for Friday, December 20, 2024, before Winter Break, and on the final day of school, Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The calendar was developed to ensure balanced semesters and to align with the schedules of local higher education institutions, Tyler Junior College (TJC) and the University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler), a design beneficial for students participating in concurrent enrollment programs. It also meets the state-required 75,600 minutes of instruction. The district has built in bad weather make-up days, with Monday, February 17, 2025, designated as the primary make-up day. Should an additional day be needed, Friday, April 18, 2025 (Good Friday), would serve as a secondary make-up day.
The approved calendar is the result of a comprehensive development process led by a Calendar Committee, which generated multiple options. Extensive feedback was gathered from over 4,000 staff members before the final recommendation was presented to the Board.
