Tyler ISD Sets 2024-25 Instructional Calendar

Tyler ISD Board Approves 2024-2025 Instructional Calendar

The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees officially adopted the instructional calendar for the 2024-2025 school year on February 19, 2024, setting key dates for students and staff across the district. The board approved Option A following a review of various proposals.

Students will begin classes on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, with a long Labor Day weekend quickly following on Monday, September 2.

The calendar includes a full week off for Thanksgiving from November 25 to 29, 2024. An extended winter break will commence on December 23, 2024, with students returning to school on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Staff members will have a workday on January 6, 2025.

Spring Break is scheduled for March 10-14, 2025, a period chosen to align with the academic calendars of The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) and Tyler Junior College (TJC), both located in Tyler, Texas. Students will also observe holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday on April 18 and April 21, 2025, respectively. The last day of school for students is set for Thursday, May 22, 2025.

The calendar approval followed a recommendation from the district’s Calendar Committee, which is composed of staff, parents, and community members. Public input was also a factor, gathered through a survey conducted from January 22 to February 2, 2024.

While there are no regular early release Fridays planned, students will have early dismissal on Friday, December 20, 2024, before the winter break, and again on the final day of school, Thursday, May 22, 2025.

The district has designated two bad weather days to account for potential unforeseen closures. The primary bad weather day is Friday, May 23, 2025, with Monday, April 21, 2025, serving as a secondary option if needed. The academic year is structured around four nine-week grading periods, with two periods comprising each semester.
