Smith Co. Fire Uncontained; Texas Forest Service Called

Arp, TX – A significant brush fire erupted Tuesday, August 15th, on Highway 64 near Arp, prompting a multi-agency response to combat the rapidly spreading blaze fueled by high temperatures and dry conditions.

The fire, which started earlier on Tuesday, August 15th, necessitated a difficult battle for Smith County firefighters. Crews from the Arp Volunteer Fire Department, Chapel Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and Winona Volunteer Fire Department were all on the scene.

Due to the fire's rapid spread, a primary focus for responders was structure protection. The Texas Forest Service was called in for backup, with their personnel still en route to the scene later yesterday afternoon.

The incident specifically occurred around the intersection of Highway 64 and County Road 264. To manage the situation and ensure public safety, authorities closed County Road 264 between County Road 289 and Highway 64.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, the fire remained active and was not yet contained, with the Texas Forest Service continuing their deployment to assist in bringing the situation under control.
