Haynes King Wins Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

**Former Longview Star Haynes King Honored with Prestigious Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award**

HOUSTON, TX – Longview native and Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King was recognized as the nation's top offensive player with Texas ties at the collegiate level, receiving the prestigious Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award on January 17th in Houston. King's father, Mike King, was present to celebrate the significant honor presented by SPORTyler (www.sportyler.org).

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, established in 2013, recognizes the top offensive player in NCAA Division I football who was born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school, or played at a Texas junior college or four-year university. King, who played high school football at Longview High School (www.lisd.org/longviewhigh), was selected from a competitive group of finalists that included Jayden de Laura (Arizona), Ollie Gordon II (Colorado State), Adonai Mitchell (Texas), and J.J. Weaver (Kentucky).

King's standout performance for Georgia Tech (www.ramblinwreck.com) during the 2023 season made him a clear frontrunner. Starting all 13 games for the Yellow Jackets, King amassed 2,842 passing yards and accounted for an impressive 27 total touchdowns, including seven rushing scores. His exceptional play led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in total touchdowns and ranked him 10th nationally, spearheading Georgia Tech to an unexpected 7-6 season that culminated in an appearance at the Gasparilla Bowl. A major highlight of their season was an upset victory over #17 North Carolina.

Before joining Georgia Tech, King previously played for Texas A&M. His football journey began under the tutelage of his father, Mike King, who coached him for all four years at Longview High. Mike King now serves as the head coach at Whitehouse High School (www.whitehouseisd.org).

Haynes King now joins an elite fraternity of past Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award winners, including NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Sam Ehlinger. His achievement underscores a remarkable season and a bright future for the East Texas talent.
