**Tyler ISD Board to Vote on Elementary Attendance Zone Changes, Potential Bell Elementary Closure**
TYLER, TX – The Tyler Independent School District is advancing a proposal for significant elementary school attendance zone changes, which could include the closure of Bell Elementary School due to declining enrollment. The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to consider and potentially vote on the proposed plan at its regular meeting on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Bell Elementary is currently projected to serve approximately 200 students for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. The district's plan involves merging Bell's current attendance zone into neighboring elementary schools. If approved, students from Bell Elementary would be rezoned, paving the way for the potential closure of the school.
Concurrently, Clarkston Elementary School is transitioning to become the new location for Moore MST Magnet School, opening in its new facility for the Fall 2024 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford and Chief of School Leadership Dr. Monica Cross presented details of the proposed changes during a workshop on Monday, April 22, 2024, laying out the rationale and potential impacts.
Should the Board approve the changes, the new attendance zones would take effect for the Fall 2024 school year. The district encourages community members to visit TylerISD.org for more information on district operations and TylerISD.org/BoardMeetings for meeting agendas and minutes regarding this important decision.
