CANYON, TX – West Texas A&M University basketball teams split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at the First United Bank Center on Friday, January 30, with the No. 16 Lady Buffs suffering a narrow defeat, 59-56, to UT Tyler, and the No. 13 Buffs securing a comfortable 78-62 victory over the Patriots.
The Lady Buffs' loss to UT Tyler snapped their impressive 13-game winning streak and marked their first home defeat of the 2025-26 season. Kyla Casares led West Texas A&M with 18 points in the contest. Following the game, the Lady Buffs' record stands at 16-3 overall and 12-1 in Lone Star Conference play. UT Tyler's women's team improved to 15-5 overall, with a 9-4 conference record.
In the men's game, the No. 13 Buffs delivered a strong performance against UT Tyler. Zach Toussaint paced the Buffs with 18 points, while Jack Hoiberg contributed a career-high 17 points for West Texas A&M. Kieran Shehorn also added 12 points to the winning effort. The victory boosts the Buffs' season record to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in the Lone Star Conference. UT Tyler's men's team moved to 11-8 overall, 6-7 in LSC action.
