Tyler ISD Bond 2024: No Tax Rate Increase Proposed

**Tyler ISD Bond 2024 Heads to May 4th Ballot with No Projected Tax Rate Increase**

Tyler, Texas – Voters in the Tyler Independent School District will decide on a $298 million bond proposal during the May 4th election, which aims to address student growth, update aging facilities, and enhance future readiness across the district. District officials project the bond can be passed without an increase to the current property tax rate.

The comprehensive proposal includes several major projects. Key among them are the construction of a completely new Hubbard Middle School, the rebuilding of Bonner Elementary, and the rebuilding of Bell Elementary. Additionally, the plan calls for the conversion of Clarkston Elementary into a dedicated career and technical high school, providing specialized pathways for students.

Significant renovations are also planned for both Tyler High School and Legacy High School. District-wide improvements encompass safety and security upgrades, such as new entryways and secure vestibules at various campuses. Other proposed enhancements include technology infrastructure upgrades, athletic facility improvements across multiple campuses, and the acquisition of new furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

Despite the substantial $298 million price tag, Tyler ISD's Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Jeff Barnes, confirmed that the district anticipates no increase to the current tax rate of $1.0963 per $100 valuation. This is largely attributed to previous bond debt maturing, allowing new debt from the 2024 bond to replace it without raising the overall rate.

The development of the bond proposal involved extensive community input. A citizens' committee, appointed by the Tyler ISD Board, held more than 50 meetings since August 2023 to evaluate district needs and shape the final recommendations. Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford and Board President Andy Bergfeld have both underscored the importance of community voice in formulating the bond package.

For those interested in delving deeper into the specifics of the proposal, additional information is available on the district's dedicated website at tylerisd.org/bond2024.
