**Construction Underway for Tyler ISD's Expansive New Operations Center**
TYLER, TX – Tyler ISD has officially begun construction on its new District Operations Center, a 96,000-square-foot facility designed to consolidate essential district services and enhance operational efficiency. Located at 4000 Bellwood Road in Tyler, the site previously housed an Academy Sports + Outdoors store.
The ambitious project, overseen by Superintendent Dr. Marty L. Crawford, aims to centralize departments such as Technology, Maintenance, Custodial, and Transportation. The new center will also include a modern warehouse, a dedicated print shop, and significant upgrades for the district’s bus fleet. Among the planned improvements are an indoor bus parking garage, a new bus fueling station, and a four-bay drive-thru bus wash. Additionally, the facility will feature a secure multi-use training room, providing a dedicated space for staff development.
The Board of Trustees approved the purchase of the Bellwood Road site in April 2022, with the district completing the acquisition in May 2022 for $5 million. Construction commenced this past May 2024, with an anticipated completion by Spring 2025. Tyler ISD expects to have all departments moved into the new facility by Summer 2025.
Funding for the District Operations Center comes from surplus state funds, including ESSER II and III allocations, as well as other state non-bond construction money. The project is being completed without incurring new bond debt, a strategic decision highlighted by district officials as a fiscally responsible use of available resources for long-term operational improvements.
