Tyler Man Arrested After Road Rage Shooting Injures Teen, Vehicle Crashes
A South Tyler man faces an aggravated assault charge following a road rage incident Tuesday afternoon, February 12th, that left a 16-year-old boy shot and his family's vehicle crashed.
Smith County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 19-year-old Jaren Tyrese Williams, who allegedly fired multiple shots from his gray Dodge Charger at a gray Nissan Altima on Highway 69, near FM 346, around 4:30 PM.
The 16-year-old, a passenger in the Altima, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to UT Health Tyler (www.uthealthtyler.org) for treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to recover. The victim's mother was driving the Altima, and a toddler was also present in the vehicle during the shooting.
After the shots were fired, the Altima veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole and a fence in the vicinity of Smith County Road 2185 and CR 2180.
Williams fled the scene but was located and arrested by deputies later that day in the 1300 block of North Houston Street in Tyler. The Smith County Sheriff's Office (www.smithcounty.org/government/sheriff) led the investigation.
Williams is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bond has been set at $150,000.
