Tyler ISD Voters Approve $198.5 Million Bond Package
Tyler, Texas – Voters in the Tyler Independent School District have decisively approved a $198.5 million bond package during the November 7, 2023, election, paving the way for significant facility upgrades and essential security enhancements across the district.
The bond garnered strong support, passing with 61.3% of the vote. Official results show 10,910 votes in favor compared to 6,882 against, indicating a clear mandate from the community.
The approved funds will address several critical areas within Tyler ISD. Key projects include the construction of a brand new Hubbard Middle School, replacing the current campus which has stood since 1957. Caldwell Arts Academy, housed in a building dating back to 1937, will also receive a new facility.
District-wide security upgrades are a major component of the bond, encompassing all campuses. These enhancements are set to include new perimeter fencing, advanced door access control systems, comprehensive camera surveillance, and secure vestibules at school entrances to bolster student and staff safety.
Additionally, the bond package allocates funds for significant renovations and additions at Tyler High School. General maintenance and capital improvements are also planned across the district to address deferred needs and ensure the longevity of school facilities.
A crucial aspect for homeowners is the district's commitment to no tax rate increase. Tyler ISD officials stated that the bond will not necessitate a raise in the property tax rate, maintaining the existing interest and sinking tax rate of $0.3541 per $100 valuation. This is attributed to growth in the district's assessed property values. Furthermore, homeowners aged 65 and older with a homestead exemption will continue to be protected from school district tax increases.
While design work for the projects will commence immediately, residents can expect to see actual construction begin in Spring 2025. For more information on the bond projects, residents can visit www.tylerisd.org.
