Tyler ISD Names 2023-24 Teachers of the Year

**Clarkston Elementary, Tyler Legacy High Teachers Named Tyler ISD’s Best for 2023-24**

LaShonda Washington of Clarkston Elementary and Joshua Butler of Tyler Legacy High School have been honored as Tyler ISD’s Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year, respectively, for the 2023-2024 school year. The esteemed educators were recognized at the annual “A Night of Stars” celebration hosted by the Tyler ISD Foundation on April 29, 2024, at the Texas Rose Horse Park.

LaShonda Washington, a dedicated fifth-grade ELAR teacher at Clarkston Elementary (3600 Rollins Rd, Tyler, TX 75701), brings 22 years of educational experience to her classroom, with 15 of those years devoted to students within Tyler ISD.

Joshua Butler, a highly regarded Pre-AP Chemistry teacher at Tyler Legacy High School (11353 TX-31, Tyler, TX 75705), has served the students of Tyler ISD for all 12 years of his teaching career.

"A Night of Stars" is a cornerstone event for the district, celebrating campus Teachers of the Year, Rookie Teachers, and the Partner of the Year, highlighting the dedication and excellence within Tyler ISD (www.TylerISD.org). The event took place at the scenic Texas Rose Horse Park (1000 Texas Rose Horse Park Ave, Tyler, TX 75705).

Both Washington and Butler will now advance to represent Tyler ISD in the highly competitive Region 7 Teacher of the Year program. Winners at the regional level are typically announced in August, advancing to the state competition. Tyler ISD has a strong history in these competitions, notably with Dr. Stephanie Brown from Peete Elementary being named a State Finalist in 2020.
