Tyler ISD Approves New High School Zones

**Tyler ISD Board Approves New High School Attendance Zones for 2024-2025 School Year**

TYLER, TX – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees officially approved updated high school attendance zones on December 12, 2023, a move set to take effect for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. The changes are designed to balance student growth across the district’s high schools and strategically prepare for the re-establishment of High School No. 3 as a full comprehensive campus.

The new zoning will primarily impact current 8th, 9th, and 10th graders attending Tyler High and Tyler Legacy High School. These students will be rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders, respectively, when the new zones are implemented for the 2024-2025 school year.

High School No. 3, currently operating as the Early College High School, is slated to re-establish as a comprehensive high school for the 2026-2027 school year. This long-range planning aims to accommodate future enrollment demands within the district.

Understanding the potential disruption, Tyler ISD has outlined specific provisions for current high school students. Students who are currently in 11th grade – and will be seniors in the 2024-2025 school year – will be automatically grandfathered in to remain at their current campus, ensuring no change to their final year of high school.

Current 10th graders, who will be rising juniors in the 2024-2025 school year, will be given a choice. They can elect to remain at their current high school, Tyler High or Tyler Legacy, or they can choose to transfer to their newly zoned campus. For those who opt to move to their new zoned school, the district will provide transportation services.

Extensive community engagement and data analysis preceded the Board's final decision. MGT Consulting Group assisted Tyler ISD with the demographic studies and zone analysis. The district held several public meetings, including one at Tyler High on November 27, and two at Tyler Legacy on November 28 and December 4, to gather community feedback. Additionally, the Board of Trustees held workshops on the proposed changes on October 30, November 13, and December 11 before their ultimate vote.
