**Following Attack, Tyler Community Focuses on Safe Walking Trails and Personal Safety**
TYLER, Texas — An unsettling incident last Saturday, October 28th, has prompted renewed discussions among Tyler residents regarding personal safety and the importance of secure walking locations throughout the city. The Smith County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning attack where a woman walking in her neighborhood near Loop 323 and Old Jacksonville Highway was reportedly forced into a black Dodge Ram truck. The assailant then drove her to an ATM to withdraw money before releasing her.
The incident has underscored the need for vigilance and has led many to explore the safest options for outdoor exercise, particularly when walking alone or after dark. Local resources offer several well-regarded locations that provide amenities for safe and enjoyable walks.
Here are some of Tyler's recommended parks and trails:

* **Tyler State Park:** Situated north of town at 789 Park Road 16, Tyler State Park offers a serene environment for hikers with numerous trails, as well as opportunities for fishing and boating. There is a $6 entrance fee for individuals aged 13 and older. While the gatehouse is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the trails are accessible from sunrise to sunset.
* **Noble E. Young Park:** For those seeking a closer-in option, Noble E. Young Park at 1000 N Glenwood Boulevard provides a convenient walking trail alongside a basketball court and playground. Its operating hours are from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily.
* **Rose Rudman Recreational Trail:** This expansive paved trail begins near South Broadway Avenue and Loop 323, extending south and connecting to the Legacy Trails. Equipped with benches and water fountains, it's ideal for longer, consistent walks. The trail is open daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
* **UT Health East Texas Olympic Center:** For an indoor and climate-controlled option, especially beneficial during dark hours or inclement weather, the UT Health East Texas Olympic Center at 1100 Eastlake Parkway offers an indoor track, gym, pools, and fitness classes. Membership is required for access.
Regardless of the chosen location, authorities and community members advise individuals to remain acutely aware of their surroundings, avoid walking alone if possible — particularly at night — and stick to well-lit areas.
