**Governor Abbott Highlights "Largest Ever" Property Tax Cut During Tyler Visit**
TYLER – Governor Greg Abbott visited Tyler on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, to promote the state's $18 billion property tax relief plan, which he described as the largest property tax cut in Texas history. Speaking at The Grove, a residential community in Tyler, the Governor highlighted the plan's significant benefits for homeowners and businesses.
Abbott was joined by Senator Bryan Hughes and Representative Matt Schaefer, who both advocated for the tax reduction measures. The comprehensive plan was approved by Texas voters in November 2023, following legislative action to address rising property tax burdens across the state.
Key provisions of the voter-approved plan include an increase in the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000. Additionally, a new appraisal cap has been established for non-homestead properties, such as businesses and rental homes, provided their value is under $5 million, offering protection against dramatic appraisal increases.
According to state projections, the average Texas homeowner is expected to see approximately $2,500 in savings over the next two years as a direct result of these measures. Governor Abbott emphasized this point during his address, stating, "In the state of Texas, you own your property, not the government."
Looking to the future, Governor Abbott reiterated his commitment to continued property tax relief, expressing an ultimate goal of eliminating school property taxes entirely. His visit to Tyler was part of a broader effort to inform Texans about the impact of the new tax laws.
