**David Boyd Anderson, Longtime Tyler Attorney and Civic Leader, Passes Away at 81**
Tyler mourns the loss of David Boyd Anderson, a prominent attorney and dedicated community leader, who passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the age of 81. A lifelong resident of East Texas, Anderson was known for his extensive legal career spanning 56 years and his deep involvement in various local organizations.
Born in Tyler on March 28, 1944, to Boyd and Nell Anderson, David remained rooted in the community he loved. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler with the Class of 1962 before earning his BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966. He then pursued his law degree at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, graduating in 1969 and passing the Texas Bar the same year. Anderson established his own firm, Anderson & Associates, in 1975, where he specialized in corporate law, real estate, and estate planning until his passing.
Anderson's commitment to Tyler extended far beyond his legal practice. He served with distinction on the Tyler Economic Development Council (TEDC) for 15 years, including a term as chairman from 1990 to 1992. His community involvement also included active participation at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tyler (stpaulsumctyler.org), and serving on the boards of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra (etsymphony.org) and Historic Tyler Inc. (historictyler.org).
He married Susan Miller in Tyler on August 14, 1965. Together, they raised two children: Sarah Anderson Chen, residing in Austin, and Michael Anderson, residing in Houston. He was a proud grandfather to Emily and Jacob Chen, and Olivia and Ben Anderson. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Anderson Smith of Dallas. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Anderson. In his leisure time, David found joy in golfing at Willow Brook Country Club, fishing on Lake Palestine, passionately supporting UT football, and indulging his love for history books.
A visitation for Mr. Anderson will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, located at 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, TX (stewartfamilyfh.com). Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1355 E. Richards St, Tyler, TX (stpaulsumctyler.org), with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, 201 S. Donnybrook Ave, Tyler, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the East Texas Food Bank (easttexasfoodbank.org).
