David Swinson Named Tyler ISD Chief of Police

**Veteran Officer David Swinson Named New Tyler ISD Police Chief**

TYLER, TX – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees has officially appointed David Swinson as the new Chief of Police for the Tyler ISD Police Department. The board approved Swinson's appointment during their meeting on June 17, 2024, with his tenure commencing the following day, June 18, 2024.

Chief Swinson brings 34 years of extensive law enforcement experience to the district. Prior to joining Tyler ISD, he served with distinction for eleven years as the Chief of Police for the Hallsville ISD Police Department.

A highly qualified professional, Swinson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX (www.shsu.edu). He is also certified as a Master Peace Officer and a Police Instructor by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLEOSE), underscoring his commitment to professional development and training.

Upon his appointment, Chief Swinson expressed his focus on fostering strong relationships within the district and community. His primary goals for Tyler ISD include ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for students across all campuses and significantly enhancing community involvement with the police department.

Chief Swinson steps into the role following the retirement of former Chief Will Frazier. He resides in the area with his wife, Heather, and their two children.
