**Judge Quincy Beavers Jr. to Retire After Nearly Three Decades on Smith County Bench**

**TYLER, TX –** Judge Quincy Beavers Jr. will step down from the 321st Judicial District Court in Smith County on February 29, 2024, concluding a distinguished judicial career spanning nearly 30 years. Judge Beavers, the first African American judge ever elected to a district court bench in Smith County, was sworn into office in 1995 after his election in 1994.

His retirement marks the end of a remarkable 38-year legal career. Judge Beavers began his journey in law after graduating from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University ([https://www.tsulaw.edu/](https://www.tsulaw.edu/)) in 1977. He started his career with Legal Aid of Central Texas, working out of their Waco office, before returning to East Texas in 1981. For 13 years, he maintained a private practice in Tyler, TX, before successfully running for judge.

An East Texas native, Judge Beavers was born in Jacksonville, TX. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1970 and went on to earn his degree from Prairie View A&M University ([https://www.pvamu.edu/](https://www.pvamu.edu/)) in 1974.

Throughout his tenure, Judge Beavers gained a reputation for his evenhanded approach, presiding over a wide array of cases including sensitive family law and juvenile matters, complex civil disputes, and felony criminal cases. He has also been a respected mentor to countless new lawyers and fellow judges in Smith County.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Beavers has been deeply involved in community service. Judge Beavers is married to Sandra Beavers, and they have two daughters, Kendra and Krystle. His legacy of pioneering achievement and dedicated public service leaves a profound impact on Smith County.
