**Longview's Haynes King Named Finalist for Prestigious Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award**
LONGVIEW, Texas – Former Longview High School standout and current Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King has been named a finalist for the prestigious Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, recognizing him as one of the top offensive players in college football with a strong connection to Texas. The award honors players embodying the integrity, teamwork, and drive exemplified by legendary running back Earl Campbell.
King, who graduated from Longview High School in 2020, has had a breakout season for the Yellow Jackets. After transferring from Texas A&M in December 2022, he completed 195 of 332 passes (58.7%) for 2,843 yards and 27 passing touchdowns. He also showcased his dual-threat capabilities with 737 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, accumulating an impressive combined total of 3,580 yards and 37 touchdowns.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented annually to an offensive player who was born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school, or played at a Texas junior college or a four-year Texas university. King's roots in Longview make him a perfect fit for the criteria.
He is one of 17 finalists for the honor, joining an elite group that includes Frank Gore Jr. (Southern Miss), Jayden Daniels (LSU), Bo Nix (Oregon), and fellow Texans Jonathon Brooks and Xavier Worthy from the University of Texas.
King previously led the Longview Lobos to an undefeated 16-0 season and a 6A Division II state championship in 2018.
The winner of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award will be announced at a special banquet on January 10, 2024, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tyler, Texas. More information about the award can be found at www.earlcampbelltylerroseaward.com.
