**Maxine Darst Flatt, Longtime Tyler Community Figure, Dies at 90**
TYLER, Texas — Maxine Darst Flatt, a beloved Tyler resident known for her extensive community involvement and dedication to her family, passed away Monday, November 10, in Tyler. She was 90 years old.
Born in Tyler on January 20, 1935, to Robert and Minnie Dee Darst, Mrs. Flatt was a lifelong resident who contributed significantly to the local community. She married Robert G. Flatt on August 17, 1957, who preceded her in death in 2012.
Mrs. Flatt was a product of Tyler schools, attending Tyler Junior College before earning her degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She began her career teaching in the Austin Independent School District before returning to Tyler, where she continued her legacy of service.
Her community contributions were numerous, including active membership in the Junior League of Tyler. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Tyler, located at 230 W. Rusk St., where she sang in the choir and served as an elder. Earlier in her life, she was also an active member of Marvin United Methodist Church.
Beyond her community work, Mrs. Flatt enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, and gardening. She also shared a passion for travel with her late husband, particularly enjoying trips to Colorado.
She is survived by her children, David Flatt and Laura Nutter, and Laura's husband Jim Nutter, as well as her granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Nutter.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 14, at 10 a.m. in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church of Tyler. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, located at 220 S. Rose Hill Dr.
