New West Campus High School Breaks Ground

Groundbreaking Marks Start of Construction for New West Campus High School

A significant milestone for local education was reached on May 14th, with a groundbreaking ceremony marking the official start of construction for the new West Campus High School. Located at West Loop 323, just north of Shiloh Road, the state-of-the-art facility is slated to open in August 2026, ready for the 2026-2027 school year.

The ceremony was attended by key district officials, including Dr. Crawford and members of the Board of Trustees, alongside representatives from VLK Architects and Joeris General Contractors. This new campus is a critical component of the district’s strategy to accommodate rapid growth and foster more focused, smaller learning environments for students.

Designed to accommodate 1,200 students, West Campus High School will feature modern classrooms, innovative collaborative learning spaces, and robust career and technical education facilities. An extensive athletics complex, complete with a gymnasium and multiple practice fields, will also be a core component of the new campus.

The school plans for a phased opening, initially welcoming freshmen and sophomores for its inaugural 2026-2027 school year, before gradually expanding to include all four high school grades.

The project is made possible by the $198 million bond issue that voters overwhelmingly approved in 2022, underscoring the community's commitment to investing in future educational infrastructure.
