**Tyler ISD Nears Completion on New District Operations Center, Set to Open This Summer**
TYLER, Texas – Tyler Independent School District is swiftly moving towards the completion of its new District Operations Center, transforming the former Ramey Elementary campus into a consolidated hub for essential district services. The facility, located on the 1800 Block of West Gentry in Tyler, began construction in April 2024 and is targeted for completion by late Spring 2024, with departments slated to begin moving in over Summer 2024.
The extensive renovation and expansion project is funded by a $16.8 million bond approved by voters in May 2022. The new center is designed to enhance operational efficiencies by bringing together departments currently scattered across various campuses. These include Child Nutrition, Transportation, Maintenance & Operations, the Warehouse, Custodial services, and the District Police.
Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford emphasized the project's importance for improving overall district operations. Louis Sanchez, Chief Operations Officer, highlighted the strategic advantage of consolidating these departments. "Bringing these teams under one roof will significantly boost response times and foster better collaboration among our essential services," Sanchez stated.
The project involves repurposing the original 35,000 square foot Ramey building and adding a new 20,000 square foot facility specifically for Child Nutrition. This new addition will house a state-of-the-art production kitchen capable of preparing over 22,000 meals daily, streamlining the district's food service operations.
For the Transportation department, the center will feature new fleet maintenance bays, a vehicle wash bay, and a new on-site fuel station. The complex will also include dedicated training rooms for all departments and secure areas within the facility for the District Police.
