Three Lakes JH New Building Open, Fields Underway

Tyler, TX – Students at Three Lakes Junior High officially moved into their new, state-of-the-art building on January 8th, marking a significant step in the Tyler Independent School District’s 2022 Bond program. The new facility, designed to accommodate up to 1,200 students, replaces the former campus and offers modern learning environments.

The expansive three-story junior high building spans 148,000 square feet and features 46 classrooms, two gymnasiums, a weight room, three science labs, and two art rooms. Additionally, students now have access to a dedicated esports lab, a library, and a cafetorium. The substantial completion of the new building occurred in December 2023, allowing students to transition after the winter holidays.

Meanwhile, the site of the old Three Lakes Junior High building, located at 1300 E. 5th Street near Tyler High, has been fully cleared. Demolition of the previous structure began in March 2024 and is now complete. Site preparation is currently underway for a new athletic complex on this footprint.

The future athletic complex will feature a new turf field, tennis courts, updated parking facilities, and a new bus loop, transforming the area into a comprehensive sports and recreation hub for the school and community. The full project, including the new athletic fields, is targeted for completion in Fall 2025.

The construction of the new junior high and athletic complex represents a $79.4 million investment from the 2022 Bond. The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees approved the construction in October 2021, with Satterfield & Pontikes Construction and Eubanks Architects selected the following month in November 2021 to bring the vision to life.
