Tyler Flat Tires From Debris: Contractor to Reimburse

Tyler drivers who have experienced costly flat tires along South Donnybrook Avenue near the Loop 323 intersection over the past two weeks due to road construction debris are now eligible for reimbursement. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) confirmed Friday, May 17, that the contractor responsible will cover tire damage.

The section of South Donnybrook has been a persistent issue for drivers, with multiple individuals reporting flat tires caused by small, sharp metal pieces originating from an ongoing road improvement project in the area.

Residents like Stephanie Gammill know the problem firsthand, suffering two flats in two weeks in the exact spot. Her latest incident occurred Tuesday evening, May 14, when her tire was "completely ripped" with "metal shavings" and a "long metal piece" found embedded.

Crystal Smith encountered the debris early Wednesday, May 15, around 5:30 AM, near the Loop 323/Donnybrook intersection in Tyler. She described seeing "chunks of metal" and ultimately had to pay $250 for a new tire. Smith also noted seeing other vehicles pulled over with similar flat tire issues. Jacob Slocum reported hitting something similar on Monday, May 13, near the same intersection, resulting in approximately $200 in damage for his new tire, also due to metal fragments.

TxDOT acknowledged receiving numerous complaints regarding the debris. In response, as of Friday, May 17, TxDOT has contacted its contractor, Longview Bridge & Road, Ltd. The company is now not only actively sweeping the area to remove remaining debris but is also implementing additional safety measures to prevent future incidents.

Drivers who incurred tire damage from the debris in this area can seek reimbursement directly from the contractor. To initiate the process and learn how to submit a claim, affected individuals are advised to call TxDOT's Tyler Area Office at 903-510-9100.
