Tyler ISD $298.6M Bond Vote May 4: No Tax Hike

Tyler Independent School District voters will decide on a $298.6 million bond package during the May 4th election, following unanimous approval by the school board on February 19th. The district asserts the bond will not result in a tax rate increase for local residents.

The decision came after initial discussions on February 2nd regarding the significant investment in district facilities and programs. Tyler ISD officials emphasize that the proposed bond, if approved, will be funded without raising the current property tax rate.

The bond package is divided into two propositions. Proposition A, totaling $220.5 million, focuses on foundational projects. This includes the construction of a new Career and Technology Center and a new RISE Academy. Additionally, funds are allocated for renovations and additions at Legacy High School and Tyler High School, improvements at Bell Elementary School, and the development of a new transportation facility for the district's bus fleet.

Proposition B, valued at $78.1 million, addresses specific campus needs. Major renovations and additions are planned for Hubbard Middle School. The proposition also includes an expansion at Clarkston Elementary School and necessary improvements at Peete Elementary School.

District leaders state the bond is essential to accommodate Tyler's ongoing population growth, address the aging infrastructure of existing school buildings, and provide students with modern learning environments and relevant career skills for future employment.

Early voting for the bond package will commence on April 22nd and conclude on April 30th. Election Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th. Specific polling locations for the election will be announced by Tyler ISD in the coming weeks. For more information on the bond package, visit www.tylerisd.org.
