**Tyler ISD Board Approves $10.5 Million Compensation Plan, Boosting Starting Teacher Salary to $60,000**
Tyler, Texas – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees has approved a new compensation plan for all district employees, committing an investment of $10.5 million for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. The plan, given final approval during the board meeting on June 18, 2024, significantly raises the starting teacher salary and includes increases for all staff categories.
The substantial investment is part of an $83 million total compensation package aimed at attracting and retaining top talent within Tyler ISD. A key highlight of the new plan is the $2,000 increase to the starting teacher salary, elevating it from $58,000 to $60,000.
Beyond new hires, current teachers, librarians, counselors, nurses, and diagnosticians will receive a 2% increase based on their midpoint salary. Support staff will also benefit from raises of 2.5% of their midpoint salary or $500, whichever amount is greater. Administrators are set to receive a 2% increase based on their midpoint salary as well.
Tyler ISD continues to prioritize robust employee benefits. The district will maintain 100% coverage of the employee-only premium for the TRS Aetna HealthSelect medical plan. Staff members will also continue to receive 10 paid leave days, comprising five local and five state days. Additionally, teachers can earn per diem for up to 10 professional development days.
To address critical staffing needs, the district is offering special stipends ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for hard-to-fill positions. These include bilingual, special education, secondary math and science teachers, and roles at critical needs campuses across the district. The plan underscores Tyler ISD's commitment to being a highly competitive employer in the region.
The new compensation plan was developed with input from a diverse staff committee and was initially presented to the Board in May before its final passage. It is fully funded through the district's existing Maintenance and Operations budget.
