Tyler Independent School District's Board of Trustees approved its 2024-2025 budget and compensation plan at a special meeting on June 18, setting a general fund budget of $236.4 million. The new financial year officially begins on July 1 for the district in Tyler, Texas.
The approved plan allocates over $9.5 million directly to staff compensation, reflecting a significant investment in the district's employees. Teachers, librarians, counselors, and nurses will receive a $2,000 increase to their base salaries. Other professional staff will see a 3% raise based on their midpoint salary, guaranteed with a minimum increase of $1,500. Hourly staff across the district will benefit from a $1.00 per hour raise, or 3% of their midpoint if greater, establishing a new district-wide minimum wage of $15.00 per hour.
Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford highlighted the district's commitment to competitive compensation, stating the plan "focused on competitive pay." Board President Andy Bergfeld noted that the approved budget maintains the current tax rate for the community.
Beyond compensation, the budget includes $1.5 million for security enhancements, which will fund new cameras, improved access control, and enhanced fencing specifically for district facilities. An additional $1.5 million is designated for curriculum materials, and $2.0 million is earmarked for ongoing facility maintenance throughout the Tyler Independent School District.
