**Tyler ISD Board Approves $6.7 Million Compensation Plan, Boosting Pay for All Staff**
**TYLER, Texas** – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a comprehensive new compensation plan for the 2024-2025 school year during its meeting on May 20. The $6.7 million investment, funded entirely from the district’s general operating fund, aims to enhance competitiveness and retain top talent across all staff categories in Tyler.
The new plan includes a 3% General Pay Increase (GPI) for all Tyler ISD employees, encompassing teachers, administrators, and support staff. A significant highlight is the increase in starting teacher pay, which will now be $60,000.
Beyond the general increase, the plan strategically targets specific roles with stipends to attract and reward staff in high-need areas. These include:
* $3,000 for secondary math and science teachers.
* $3,000 for Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade special education teachers.
* $1,500 for bilingual teachers.
* $1,000 for elementary math and science teachers.
* $1,000 for speech pathologists, licensed specialists in school psychology, and diagnosticians.
Auxiliary staff, including transportation, child nutrition, maintenance, and custodial teams, will also see a new compensation structure. Their minimum hourly wage will increase from $15.50 to $16.00.
Dr. Marty Crawford, Superintendent of Tyler ISD, emphasized the importance of the plan. "This investment is crucial for us to remain competitive in attracting and retaining the best educators and staff for our students," Crawford stated. "It’s about showing appreciation for the hard work and dedication of everyone who contributes to the success of our district here in Tyler."
Tyler ISD employees are expected to receive individualized compensation statements by July 2024, outlining the specific details of their pay for the upcoming school year. For more information on district initiatives and employment opportunities, visit tylerisd.org.
