TYLER, Texas – The Tyler Independent School District (Tyler ISD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved an operational budget of $238,300,000 for the 2024-2025 school year during its regular meeting on Monday, June 17. The new budget is set to take effect on July 1, 2024.
The approved budget maintains the district's tax rate at $1.0427 per $100 valuation, marking the lowest tax rate in 30 years for Tyler ISD property owners.
The funding aims to support various critical areas across the district, including competitive salaries and benefits for all employees, with raises specifically allocated for teachers, nurses, librarians, and counselors. The budget also accounts for essential classroom supplies, technology upgrades, and ongoing facility maintenance. Furthermore, it includes enhancements for district-wide safety and security measures and the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, providing students with diverse pathways to future careers.
Dr. Marty Crawford, Superintendent of Schools, emphasized the district's commitment to fiscal responsibility and employee retention. He highlighted that the budget ensures student success and fosters safe and inspiring learning environments, aligning with "The Tyler Way" and the district’s "Destination TISD" vision.
The budget was developed amidst ongoing financial challenges, including rising costs due to inflation and the absence of new state funding for public education since 2019. Despite these hurdles, Tyler ISD has managed to balance the budget primarily through existing state and local property tax funding.
