**Tyler ISD Board Approves Major Leadership Reshuffle, Promotions Effective July 1**
**TYLER, Texas** – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees approved a series of significant leadership changes at its meeting on Monday, June 17, 2024, promoting several long-serving administrators and principals to new roles across the district. All new appointments are set to take effect on July 1, 2024.
Dr. Melissa Brown, who has served as the district's Chief of Schools, will ascend to the position of Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Brown brings 28 years of dedicated service to Tyler ISD, having held various roles from teacher to executive director of curriculum and instruction. Superintendent Dr. Marty L. Crawford lauded her commitment, stating, "Dr. Brown’s nearly three decades of commitment to our community and students here in Tyler, Texas, are truly invaluable. Her leadership will be instrumental as we move forward."
Taking over Dr. Brown's former role as Chief of Schools will be Dr. Leo Muirhead. Dr. Muirhead most recently served as the Executive Director of Elementary Schools and has been with Tyler ISD for 16 years. His extensive experience includes stints as principal at Bell Elementary and Caldwell Arts Academy. Dr. Crawford commended Dr. Muirhead for his "exceptional leadership and passion for student success."
The leadership realignments continue with Dr. Jennifer Blain, previously the principal at Rice Elementary for eight years, stepping into the role of Executive Director of Elementary Schools. On the secondary side, Robert Hill, who has served as principal at Tyler High School for the past five years, has been promoted to Executive Director of Secondary Schools.
Filling the principal vacancies created by these promotions, Fred Williams, formerly the Associate Principal at Tyler High for four years, will now lead Tyler High School as its new principal. At Rice Elementary, Kristal Jones, who served as the Assistant Principal, will take the helm as principal.
These strategic shifts are designed to leverage the extensive experience and proven leadership within Tyler ISD as the district prepares for the upcoming academic year. For more information about Tyler ISD, visit www.tylerisd.org.
