TYLER, Texas – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees approved Guaranteed Maximum Prices (GMPs) totaling over $40 million for significant construction projects at Caldwell Arts Academy and Jack Elementary School during its February 15th meeting. The board also gave the green light for the design of a future career and technical education (CTE) center, marking key progress for the district's 2022 Bond Program.
The GMP for Caldwell Arts Academy stands at $19,650,474. This substantial investment will fund a new classroom wing, an expanded library, new administrative offices, and an enlarged cafeteria. Additionally, the project includes improvements to the bus drop-off area, enhanced parking, better traffic flow, and a new, secure front entrance.
Jack Elementary’s project has a GMP of $21,114,834. Plans for the campus feature a new classroom wing, new administrative offices, a secure front entrance, and a library expansion. Students and staff will also benefit from improved bus drop-off and parking, a completely new cafeteria, and an expanded kitchen.
HGR General Contractors will serve as the construction management firm for both Caldwell Arts Academy and Jack Elementary projects. While Phase 1 construction began in December 2023 at Jack Elementary, the primary construction phases covered by these newly approved GMPs are set to commence in late Spring 2024. Both schools are targeted for completion by Fall 2025, as part of the overarching 2022 Bond Program.
During the same February 15th meeting, the Board also approved the design phase for a future career and technical education (CTE) center. This new facility will be built on the existing Career and Technology Center property, located at 3013 Earl Campbell Parkway. WRL Architects has been selected for the design work. The initiative aims to significantly boost program capacity and expand educational opportunities for students. Pat Pyland, Chief Operations Officer for Tyler ISD, expressed enthusiasm for the project's potential.
Community members interested in further updates on the bond projects are invited to attend the Bond Oversight Committee meeting on March 21st at 6 p.m. at Legacy High School. More information on the 2022 Bond Program can be found on the district's website at www.tylerisd.org/bond.
