**Tyler ISD Board Approves Major Bond Projects, Honors Principal of the Year**

TYLER, Texas – The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees took significant steps forward with the district's 2022 Bond Program and recognized outstanding leadership during its meeting on Monday, May 20.

Among the evening's highlights, Dr. Melissa Brown, principal of Jack Elementary, was celebrated as the Texas Elementary Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). This esteemed recognition highlights her exemplary leadership and dedication to student success.

The board then turned its attention to the ambitious 2022 Bond Program, approving several key construction bids that signal the acceleration of major projects across the district.

For Clarkston Elementary, trustees approved construction bids for both the demolition of the existing school building and the construction of its replacement. Demolition is scheduled to commence on June 10, 2024, with the new Clarkston Elementary projected to open its doors by August 2026. Berry Architects is the design firm for the new campus, while Berry & Clay Construction secured the contracts for both the demolition and new construction phases.

Extensive renovations are also moving forward at the district's two high schools. Bids were approved for Phase 1 renovations at both Tyler High and Legacy High. These projects will introduce new competition gyms, dedicated fine arts spaces, and performing arts centers at both campuses. Tyler High will additionally benefit from new Career and Technical Education (CTE) spaces and a new library, while Legacy High is set to receive new athletic training facilities and a completely new cafeteria kitchen. PBK Architects are designing these significant upgrades, with Durotech serving as the contractor. Phase 1 renovations at both high schools are slated for completion by August 2027.

Furthermore, the board approved bids for crucial HVAC system replacements across a wide array of campuses. New systems will be installed at Bell, Clarkston, Jack, Peete, Owens, Rice, and Rusk elementary schools, as well as Boulter, Moore, and Three Lakes middle schools, and the district's TEA facility. Hill and Wilkinson secured this contract, with all HVAC installations scheduled to be completed by August 2024, ensuring upgraded climate control ahead of the new school year.

These approvals represent a substantial investment in the future of Tyler ISD facilities, aiming to provide modern and efficient learning environments for students and staff. For more information on the 2022 Bond Program and district initiatives, visit www.tylerisd.org.
