Tyler ISD Budget: Lowest Tax Rate in 30 Yrs, Staff Raises

**Tyler ISD Board Adopts $227 Million Budget, Maintains Property Tax Rate for 2024-2025 School Year**

**TYLER, Texas** – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved its budget for the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, May 20, 2024, allocating $227,330,865 to its General Operating Fund. The adopted budget maintains the current property tax rate, marking it as the lowest total tax rate in over 30 years for the district.

The total property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year will remain at $0.9828 per $100 valuation. This figure comprises a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) rate of $0.7516 and an Interest and Sinking (I&S) rate of $0.2312. The official tax rate adoption is slated for September 2024.

The new budget, which becomes effective July 1, 2024, includes significant investments in staff compensation and student support. Educators and key support staff will see an average pay raise:
* Teachers, librarians, nurses, counselors, and diagnosticians will receive an average 3% raise.
* All other Tyler ISD staff members will receive an average 2.5% raise.

To address ongoing district growth and operational needs, the budget also funds 13 new positions. These roles are strategically focused on enhancing student support, bolstering safety measures, and improving overall district efficiency. Specific additions include increased security staff and expanded support for students with dyslexia.

Tyler ISD continues to experience rapid growth, currently serving approximately 20,000 students and projecting an enrollment of 22,000 within the next five years. The budget aims to proactively manage this expansion while enhancing existing programs and services.

Financially, the district remains in a strong position, having maintained a healthy fund balance that exceeds its 90-day operating reserve goal. For 21 consecutive years, Tyler ISD has received a "Superior" rating on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

The budget development process began in late 2023, involving extensive discussions and community input, including a public hearing held on May 20, 2024, prior to the Board's vote. More information about Tyler ISD and its financial transparency can be found at www.tylerisd.org.
