Tyler ISD Community Names New Elementary School

Tyler ISD is moving forward with plans for its new elementary school in west Tyler, funded by the 2022 Bond, which is set to replace both Bell Elementary and Orr Elementary. The community recently had the opportunity to submit name suggestions for the new campus, located near the Grandview area, addressing significant growth in the district.

The online submission form for naming suggestions opened on February 5, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., and closed on February 26, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Community members submitted their ideas through the district's website at TylerISD.org/nameanewschool during this period.

The new campus is designed to serve approximately 850 students and is scheduled to open its doors for the 2025-2026 school year, welcoming students in August 2025. This project is a key part of the district's strategy to modernize facilities and accommodate increasing enrollment.

Following the submission period, a dedicated Naming Committee will review all suggestions received from the community. The committee will then forward its top recommendations to the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees for consideration. The Board is expected to vote on the final name for the new elementary school sometime in Spring 2024.

The district's criteria for school names focus on individuals who have made a significant impact, either locally or nationally, or names that reflect the area's history or local significance. Preferred individuals should not be currently employed by the district or should be deceased, with a particular emphasis on local historical figures.
