Tyler ISD Elementary Zones Public Meeting

Tyler ISD is moving forward with significant elementary school zone adjustments for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year, driven by the opening of three new campuses and program transitions at existing schools. The district will host a public information meeting next week to present the proposed changes and gather community feedback.

The rezoning initiative is a direct response to the introduction of Clarkston, Velma Penny, and Silverline elementary schools, which will open their doors for the first time in August 2024. Concurrently, Peete Elementary and Rice Elementary are transitioning to serve exclusively Pre-Kindergarten programs, necessitating a redistribution of elementary students across the district. These changes aim to balance student enrollment numbers, optimize bus routes, and enhance overall operational efficiency for all elementary schools within Tyler ISD.

Parents and community members are encouraged to attend a public information meeting on Wednesday, May 29, 2024. The session will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Tyler Legacy High School Auditorium, located at 100 E. Grande Blvd. in Tyler. The meeting will feature presentations detailing the proposed new attendance boundaries, visual displays of the maps, and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. District officials, including the demographer responsible for the boundary proposals, will be present to provide information and address community concerns. Proposed maps are expected to be available for review on the Tyler ISD website, www.tylerisd.org, prior to the meeting.

Following community input, the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to hold its final consideration and vote on the new elementary school attendance boundaries on June 20, 2024. The approved zone changes will take effect beginning August 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year.
