Tyler ISD Greenlights $290M Bond; No Tax Rate Hike

TYLER, Texas – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees officially approved a comprehensive $290 million bond proposal on Wednesday, June 18th, 2024, slated for voter consideration this fall. District officials assert the extensive facilities plan will not require an increase in the property tax rate, citing existing debt capacity and projected property value growth.

The proposed 2024 Bond aims to address district-wide growth, enhance safety and security, and modernize aging infrastructure across Tyler ISD. Voters will have the opportunity to approve the measure during the upcoming November election.

A significant portion of the bond would fund two new school constructions: a larger elementary school in Northwest Tyler, replacing the current Bell Elementary, and a new middle school designed for grades 6-8 in Southwest Tyler.

District-wide improvements are also a major component, including critical safety and security upgrades such as new fencing, improved access controls, and expanded camera systems at all campuses. Energy efficiency is targeted through widespread HVAC replacements across the district.

Sports facilities are also slated for updates. Rose Stadium will receive a new scoreboard, while both Rose Stadium and Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium will benefit from track resurfacing. Plans also include improvements to parking and traffic flow at stadium venues. For career and technical education, the bond proposes expanding programs at both John Tyler High School and Tyler High School, alongside a new Ag Barn located east of I-20 and a new maintenance facility.

Additionally, several existing elementary schools are marked for significant renovations, including J.W. Holloway Elementary, Clarkston Elementary, Peete Elementary, Owens Elementary, Rice Elementary, Andy Woods Elementary, and Woods Elementary.

The district encourages residents to learn more about the specific projects and the bond's financial implications by visiting the official Tyler ISD website at www.tylerisd.org.
