TYLER, Texas – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved a comprehensive compensation package totaling $10.9 million, aimed at enhancing recruitment and retention efforts for all district employees. The decision, made during the board's May 16 meeting, marks the fourth consecutive year the district has invested significantly in staff compensation.
Under the newly approved plan, all Tyler ISD employees will receive a 3% pay raise, calculated off the midpoint of their respective pay scales.
In addition to the base pay increase, the package includes retention stipends. Teachers, librarians, diagnosticians, counselors, and nurses are slated to receive a $2,000 stipend. All other district employees, including essential support staff, will be granted a $1,000 stipend. These stipends are scheduled to be distributed in employees' November 2023 paychecks.
The substantial investment of $10.9 million will be funded directly from the district's current budget. District officials emphasized that the move is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge in attracting and retaining top-tier talent, ensuring quality education and support for students across Tyler.
The compensation enhancements will significantly impact employee salaries. The starting salary for a new teacher with a bachelor's degree in Tyler ISD will now be $60,000. Experienced educators with 20 years of service could see their salaries reach up to $75,000. The average teacher salary across the district is projected to be around $64,000.
This package follows a comprehensive compensation study conducted by the district's Human Resources department. For further details on Tyler ISD initiatives and employment opportunities, visit the district's official website at tylerisd.org.
