Tyler ISD Names 2024 Teachers of the Year

Tyler ISD proudly announced its 2024 District Teachers of the Year, Mrs. Amy Lewis from Rice Elementary and Mrs. Jennifer Stone from Hubbard Middle School, during a special Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, April 23rd. The district recognized all campus-level Teachers of the Year, celebrating their profound dedication to education.

Mrs. Amy Lewis, a veteran 1st-grade teacher at Rice Elementary (1701 N Jackson Rd, Tyler, TX), was named Elementary Teacher of the Year. With 22 years of service, all spent at Rice Elementary, Mrs. Lewis shared her philosophy: "Being a teacher is more than a job; it's a calling, a passion, a journey of the heart. It's about shaping lives, igniting curiosity, and building a community where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential."

The honor of Secondary Teacher of the Year was bestowed upon Mrs. Jennifer Stone, a 6th-grade math teacher at Hubbard Middle School (1600 Hubbard Dr, Tyler, TX). Mrs. Stone has dedicated her entire 16-year career to Hubbard Middle School. Explaining her "why," she stated her commitment to ensuring students feel valued and heard, striving to make learning both fun and relevant for them.

Both Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Stone will now represent Tyler ISD at the upcoming Regional Teacher of the Year competition. The district-level winners were meticulously selected by a committee comprised of peers, parents, and community members. All campus Teachers of the Year were also acknowledged for their outstanding contributions and commitment to student success.

Generous sponsors contributed to the celebration. Texas Bank and Trust (https://www.texasbankandtrust.com/) presented both Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Stone with a $1,000 check. The Genesis Group provided beautiful flower bouquets to the top winners. Additionally, the Tyler Education Foundation (https://tylereducationfoundation.org/) honored all other campus Teachers of the Year with gift baskets.

Dr. Marty Crawford, Tyler ISD Superintendent, praised all the district's educators. "Our teachers are the heart of Tyler ISD," Dr. Crawford said. "Their unwavering commitment, passion, and profound impact on our students' lives are truly commendable. We are incredibly proud of all our campus Teachers of the Year and especially our district winners, Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Stone, who exemplify the excellence we strive for."
