TYLER, Texas – The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dr. Wayne Weed as the lone finalist for the district's superintendent position, following a vote on Tuesday, February 21st.
The announcement initiates a 21-day waiting period, as required by state law, before the Board can take a final vote to officially offer Dr. Weed the contract. This final vote is anticipated to occur around March 14th.
Dr. Weed has served as the interim superintendent for Tyler ISD since January 1st, stepping into the role after Dr. Marty Crawford resigned in December 2022.
With 40 years of experience in public education, Dr. Weed brings extensive local knowledge and leadership to the district. His background includes a long tenure as superintendent of Lindale ISD from 1998 to 2012. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Business Operations for Tyler ISD. He also held principal positions at Robert E. Lee High School (now known as Tyler Legacy High School) and Andy Woods Elementary School, both within Tyler ISD.
The selection of Dr. Weed followed a comprehensive nationwide search conducted by Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). The search firm gathered input from over 1,500 community members and staff before presenting candidates to the Board of Trustees.
