Tyler ISD Proposes 2024-25 High School Program Changes

**Tyler ISD Proposes Significant High School Academic Overhaul for 2024-2025 School Year; Public Input Sought**

Tyler ISD is considering substantial changes to its high school academic structure for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, including an increase in graduation credit hours and a revamp of endorsement areas. The district is actively seeking public feedback this month before the Board of Trustees takes final action.

Among the key proposals, the district plans to raise the required credit hours for graduation from 24 to 26. Additionally, all existing endorsement areas—STEM, Business & Industry, Public Services, Arts & Humanities, and Multidisciplinary Studies—are set for a comprehensive restructuring. These changes aim to align district offerings more closely with the state’s 'Foundations High School Program with Endorsements' and requirements outlined in HB 5 Endorsements, ensuring students are well-prepared for college and career pathways. Adjustments to the Distinguished Level of Achievement requirements are also part of the proposed update.

Community members have a limited window to provide input on these proposed changes. A public comment period is open from April 15th through April 25th. While a virtual meeting was held on April 15th, an in-person public meeting for feedback is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23rd, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Tyler ISD Central Services Building.

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees is set to discuss the proposed academic changes at their meeting on Monday, April 22nd. Following public input and board discussion, final action on the proposals is slated for Monday, April 29th.
