**Murder Charge Filed After Tyler Man Dies from Road Rage Injuries**

**TYLER, Texas –** A Ben Wheeler man is now facing a murder charge following the death of a Tyler resident who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road rage incident last week. Michael Shawn Riley, 55, of Tyler, passed away on Friday, February 14, at UT Health East Texas in Tyler ([https://www.uthealtheasttexas.com](https://www.uthealtheasttexas.com)) due to complications from his injuries.

The initial incident occurred on Sunday, February 9, around 8:00 p.m. Riley had reportedly pulled over to assist another motorist on Eastbound Interstate 20, near the County Road 314 (also known as Farm-to-Market Road 849) exit in Smith County. It was there that William Lee Davis, 39, of Ben Wheeler, allegedly assaulted Riley, who was later found unresponsive in the median.

Davis was arrested on Friday, February 14, the same day Riley died. He was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Following Riley's death, the charge has been upgraded to murder.

Davis is currently being held at the Smith County Jail ([https://www.smithcounty.com/government/sheriff](https://www.smithcounty.com/government/sheriff)). His bond has been set at $1 million.
