**Tyler Honors Veterans with 10th Annual Parade**

TYLER, Texas – The Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home hosted its tenth annual Veterans Day parade on Thursday, November 9, honoring the brave men and women residing at the facility. Approximately 140 veterans gathered on the front porch and lawn to watch the community celebration.

Among those honored were distinguished veterans from various conflicts. Charles T. Winder, 95, a decorated Army veteran, served from 1946 to 1970, spanning World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Kenneth Baker, 88, also an Army veteran, served in the Korean War. Harold Gillean, 94, a Navy veteran, piloted a B-24 during World War II, while J.W. "Dub" Dement, 96, served on a Destroyer Escort in World War II. Army MP John F. Smith, 87, was also recognized for his service.

The parade showcased a robust community effort, featuring units from the Tyler Police Department, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tyler Fire Department. Local patriotic organizations, including American Legion Post 12, the Patriot Guard Riders, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, also participated. The procession included classic cars, emergency vehicles, and decorated golf carts, all making their way past the appreciative veterans.

A notable highlight was the active involvement of local students. Young people from T.K. Gorman High School performed a "Hero Walk," carrying flags representing each military branch and personally shaking hands with the veterans. Students from Grace Community School contributed to the festive atmosphere by singing patriotic songs, underscoring the deep respect and gratitude the Tyler community holds for these veterans.
