JACKSONVILLE, Texas — A multi-vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers and a passenger vehicle resulted in serious injuries and several hours of road closure on US-69 near Jacksonville on Monday, May 20. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the entrance to Love's Lookout, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
DPS's preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound 18-wheeler attempted to make a left turn into Love's Lookout. While turning, it was struck by a second southbound 18-wheeler. The second 18-wheeler then veered into the northbound lanes, colliding with an oncoming passenger car.
The driver of the passenger vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The drivers of both 18-wheelers were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Responding agencies included the Texas DPS, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Jacksonville Police Department, and Jacksonville Fire Department. US-69 was closed in both directions for several hours following the crash, causing significant traffic delays, before being at least partially reopened.
