UT Tyler Patriots Secure Strong Start at LSC Indoor Championships
TYLER, Texas – The UT Tyler Patriots men's track and field team made a significant impact on the opening day of the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Indoor Championships, held Friday, February 27th, at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas. After the first day of competition, the Patriots stood in an impressive fourth place out of ten teams, accumulating 22 points.
Outstanding performances highlighted the day, particularly in the field events. In the high jump, Tyrese Bureau soared to a personal best of 2.07 meters, securing second place and earning eight crucial points for the team. Teammate Trevor Gipson also set a personal best, clearing 1.97 meters to claim fourth place and add five points. Jackson Laun contributed one point with an eighth-place finish, clearing 1.92 meters.
The long jump saw Ashton Dudley leap to fourth place with a mark of 7.02 meters, adding five points to the Patriots' tally. Malachi Johnson also achieved a personal best in the long jump, finishing seventh with 6.84 meters, which was good for two points.
On the track, the Distance Medley Relay team, comprised of Landon Thornton, Noah Berney, Lorenzo Sanchez, and Matthew Ariza, delivered a top-eight finish, contributing four points to the team score.
Additionally, several Patriots advanced to Saturday's finals after strong preliminary performances on Friday. Matthew Ariza, Landon Thornton, and Lorenzo Sanchez all qualified in the mile prelims. Ashton Dudley and Tyrese Bureau punched their tickets in the 60-meter prelims, while Noah Berney secured his spot in the 800-meter final.
