TYLER, Texas – The University of Texas at Tyler's College of Pharmacy celebrated a significant milestone on May 10th, graduating its first cohort of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) students during the spring commencement ceremony. Forty-six students earned their degrees, marking the successful completion of a program launched just four years ago in 2020.
This inaugural class represents a crucial step in addressing healthcare needs across East Texas and beyond. Dr. Amy O'Keefe, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, highlighted the profound impact these new pharmacists will have. "This first graduating class is incredibly impactful for healthcare, especially for our community in East Texas," O'Keefe stated. "They are prepared to make a real difference from day one."
A notable 37 of the 46 graduates, approximately 80%, plan to remain in Texas for their residencies or to begin their careers. Their professional paths will take them into a variety of settings, including acute care hospitals and community pharmacies. Other graduates are expanding their reach, heading to out-of-state positions in California, Georgia, and Massachusetts.
